Transforming Unused Spaces Into Places Growing Local Healthy Food
By the year 2050, it is predicted that close to 10 billion people will be living on our planet and 70% of those people will be living in cities which is 25% more than today. We need to have viable solutions to be able to feed our growing population at scale year round right in cities where people live. Our vertical urban farms are one viable innovative sustainable solution to feed our growing population. The average bite of food in America travels over 1500 miles before it reaches our plate, losing nutritional value and adding to further climate change along the way. Anytime you can grow your own food locally whether in the ground or in a system like our’s, it has a positive impact on your health by eating food that is more nutritious and the health of our planet by reducing the carbon footprint of our food.
Our LA Urban Farms clients and locations below are shining examples of how unused spaces that exist all around us can be transformed into places of local healthy bountiful food!
Let’s Grow Together!
Why Vertical Farming?
Our Vertical Farms:
- Use 90% less water than traditional farming because the water is being recirculated in the system until the plants absorb it or it evaporates
- Use 90% less land than traditional farming. In just 30 inches of space you can grow up to 44 edible plants or 176 edible microgreens. What can be grown in an acre of land or 43,560 square feet can be grown in just 10% of that space using only 4300 feet
- Transform unused spaces that already exist all around us such as rooftops, alleyways, parking lots, garages, balconies, patios, terraces and underused indoor spaces throughout commercial properties as well
- Use only water, oxygen & earth minerals and nutrients to give the plants everything they need to grow and thrive. Our system is a soilless system so the plants do not rely on the quality of soil to grow
- Use no harmful chemicals or pesticides
- Are a self contained system so there is no agriculture run off
- Are often grown in cities close to where people live and can grow a maximum amount of food at scale with a minimal environmental impact
- Grow healthy food using less water, less time, less space, and less energy
- Grow 30% more food 2-3 times faster than traditional farming
- Plants are harvested with their roots attached as living produce full of their nutritional value
- Our vertical gardens can be grown year round using LED grow lights in places where the weather typically makes it difficult to grow
- Can be set-up and scaled very quickly from 1-10-100 or more gardens without any prior gardening or farming experience
- Qualify and are approved for LEED points on buildings certified by the US Green Building Council
